Shelby Cutlip Obituary

Shelby Joseph Cutlip, 55, of Nova passed away July 15, 2020 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus after a brief illness.    He was born February 26, 1965 in Medina, Ohio.   He was a graduate of Shelby High School/Pioneer Joint Vocation School.  Shelby Joe earned  his Associate Degree in the Electronic Engineering Technology Program from North Central State College, attending evening classes for 6 years while raising their family and working a full time job.  College was easy for him, he was a very intelligent man and studied  very little to get amazing grades.  He worked at LUK and graduated from their Electrical Maintenance Apprenticeship program.

  Shelby Joe had worked at Shelby Welded Tube, several durable medical equipment companies, where he was a compassionate service and delivery technician for home health and hospice patients.   While working at HomedCo (Apria) where he met the love of his life, soul mate, best friend, business partner and Wife, Brenda Lee.    He had also worked for C-P Medical, American Home Patient, Hursh, CSI, LUK, Whirlaway (NN Inc.) and his most recent and favorite job ever at First Energy (Ohio Edison).    He and his wife developed his recipe and co-founded Shelby Joes Sloppy Joe Sauce.    Shelby Joe worked  with CIFT (Center for Innovative Food Technology) where he had an amazing team of helpers to be able to follow his dream of making and selling 3 flavors of Shelby Joes Sloppy Sauce, including original, sweet and hot.   The business will live on in the honor of Shelby Joe and his love to feed people.

Shelby Joe was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Savannah, Ohio, where he was blessed with the best Pastor and Friend, John Bouquet and a wonderful church family. 

He had received several belts in Karate.   Enjoyed weight lifting and exercising.   He loved hiking along and swimming in the river in Maryland, where he spent a lot of his childhood with his grandpa Jim and grandma Wahneta.   He loved to cook and bake.   He learned to make the best homemade bread, rolls and apple cobbler from his grandma.   He loved traveling out west to go bear hunting with his friends.   He loved hunting in Ohio during gun and bow season and in West Virginia with his dad and friends.   He loved traveling to the beach in Florida for the Mapleton Spring Training Baseball trips to watch our boys, nephews and friends.  He loved the trips to North Carolina and Maryland.  

Shelby Joe loved to watch movies and listen to music.  He loved to read books, his favorite was the Bible, God’s Holy Word.   He would read a verse and pray every night before bedtime with our sons and anyone else that was spending the night.  He took us all to church on Sundays.   He was a Christian and wanted everyone to be saved and know Jesus Christ, our Savior.    Thursday night was family dinner and pizza night.   He loved his grandchildren and they were the spark and light in his heart and life.

He had been a coach and assistant coach of the Nova Little League Baseball Teams, had coached the Mapleton Mounties Pee Wee Football Team, Assistant Coach of Mapleton Football.   He was an Athletic Booster Club member, played Men’s Slow pitch softball, golf and backyard football.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Brenda Lee Lawson Huff Cutlip;  his children, Brice Jordan (Rachel Kaylene) Huff, Bryor Logan (Kaileigh Elisabeth) Huff, Logan James Cutlip, Derek Scott Cutlip;   his mother, Judy Casteel;  his grandchildren, Paizley Jordyn Huff, Lincoln James Huff, Blake Henry Huff, Ronin Cutlip; his half brother/cousin, Scott Casteel, his half sister, Wahneta Rohde, his bonus sister, Wendy Shurick, his bonus mom, Cindy Kniepkamp-Cutlip, his sister in law, Lois (Tom) Stake, 2 brothers in law, Jim Lawson, Dan (Beth) Sanders, Dave (Tecka) Sanders ;  many wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends.     He was preceded in death by his father, Shelby Cutlip, 2 children and 2 grandbabies in Heaven; his grandparents, Jim and Wahneta Casteel, Edgell and Bethel Cutlip, his bonus mom, Emma Lue Peppard, several aunts and uncles.      

Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2020 at the Bethel Baptist Church, 575 U.S. Rt. 250 N, Savannah, Ohio  44874 where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with Pastor John Bouquet officiating.   Burial will follow at the Nova Cemetery.   COVID-19 practices will be followed.   Social distancing will be in place, masks and hand sanitizing will be available.
