Roy Resor Obituary

Roy L. “Chopper” Resor, 87, a lifelong resident of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away on February 15, 2021 at Fisher Titus Medical Center.  He was born on January 30, 1934 in Norwalk to the late Mildred (Braden) and Carl Resor and was raised by Mildred and his stepfather, the also now deceased, Florian Schaffer.

Roy was an avid storyteller who enjoyed tinkering and fixing things, fishing, camping, tractor pulls, bull riding, westerns, and dirt car racing.  He had a passion for horses and horse racing and cherished his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  “Chopper” learned the value of hard work beginning as a farm hand, later driving truck for many years for Messenburg and then working at the former Janesville Mfg. plant until his retirement. 

Survivors include his children, Carol (Douglas) Ashcroft of Norwalk, Kimberly (Mark) Barnett of Norwalk, Laura (Timothy) Blystone of Norwalk and Tonya (Willard) Shupe of Sandusky; 15 grandchildren; many, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; brothers, Frank, Martin, and Tom Resor; sisters, Martha Resor, Betty Penson, Carol Tempe, and Virginia Morris.      

In addition to his birthparents and stepfather, Roy was preceded in death by his wife Emily (Wolf) Resor in September of 2020; daughters, Peggy Sue Fairchild, and Cheryl Resor; brothers, Bob Schaffer, Howard Resor, and Douglas Resor (who died the day before Roy); sister, Vera Slagle; great-great granddaughter, Irina Raine Fairchild and great-great grandson, Nolan Barnett.    

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio on Friday, February 19, 2021 from 4 p.m. until the time of the service at 6:30 p.m.  Guests to the funeral home are reminded to bring and wear a mask and to be prepared for the possibility of having to wait outside if current reduced capacity limits are exceeded until room becomes available.  Social distancing and mass gathering guidelines will be observed.  A family inurnment is being planned for the spring for both Roy and his late wife Emily in Fitchville Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in care of the funeral home.  Online expressions of sympathy and memories may be made by visiting: www.walkereastmanheydingerfh.com .
