Rollande Leizerman Obituary

Rollande Rose Madeline (Lafontaine) Leizerman May 26, 1924 – March 23, 2024

Rollande passed away peacefully, with her family at her side, on March 23, 2024. She was born in St. Cyprien, de Dorchester, Quebec on May 26, 1924, to Antoinette & Joseph Lafontaine. Rollande grew up in nearby St. Justine, and moved to Montreal in the 1940’s, where she met her beloved Issie Leizerman, the two marrying in 1955. Children followed, Jack in 1957, and Suzanne in 1959.

These four Canucks moved to the U.S. in 1965, settling in Temperance, Michigan, where Rollande and Issie lived for 30 years. Rollande worked at St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center for many years as a unit clerk and senior clerk, where she was known as Rose, and loved by all.

After retirement, she and Issie relocated to Florida, and enjoyed many years of sun and friendship. After Issie passed in 2013, Rollande moved back to Norwalk, Ohio, where she lived with daughter Suzanne and son-in-law Lyle, for the final decade of her life.

Many in her family were, like Rollande, chefs par excellence, and she was incapable of cooking a bad meal.  She learned to drive in her 40’s, and took up watercolors in retirement. She enjoyed bridge and cards games of all types, and was also an avid swimmer.

Rollande held her faith and family most dearly, and she was preceded in death by her loving husband Issie, parents, brothers Philippe and Gregoire, sisters Margot, Francoise, Mary Paule, Pierette, a sister who died in infancy (also named Mary Paule) and several dear nieces and nephews. She is survived by brothers Georges and Marcel, children Jack (Anne Seguin) and Suzanne (Lyle) Fisher, grandchildren Matthew Fisher, Melissa “The Boss” (Dustin) Beal, Julie (Dre) Harris and Peter (Katt) Fisher, and Jacqueline and Benjamin Leizerman, and great-grandchildren Lynn and Everett Beal, and Juniper and Maple Fisher. In addition, Rollande is survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral Mass will be held on April 19, 2024, beginning at 10:30 a.m., at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Catholic Church, 38 League Street, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857. All are invited. The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend in person. Please go to https://stmarynorwalk.org/ and look for the live-stream links to Facebook or Youtube, which will begin 5 minutes before the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Fisher Titus Medical Center and Southern Care Hospice for their kind care.
