Richard S. Blackburn, 90, of Norwalk, Ohio, died at Stein Hospice in Sandusky on Saturday, April 10, 2021. He was born on April 17, 1930 to the late Ethel (Shaw) and Harry Blackburn.
After graduating from Norwalk High School in 1948, Richard attended The Ohio State University where he received his bachelor's degree in 1956. Richard served in in the Korean War in the United States Air Force until 1973 having reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He worked as a CPA for Ernst and Ernst in Cleveland, served as the treasurer for Frank-Seringer & Chaney Inc., and was a former owner of Edwards Laboratory of Norwalk and Sandusky-Milan Steel.
Richard was a member of the Beta Alpha Psi Fraternity, the Masonic Temple, the Zenobia Shriners Club, the Norwalk ELKS, the Norwalk Eagles, the Norwalk Kiwanis, and the Norwalk First United Methodist Church. He also served on the Milan Historical Museum Board and the Fisher Titus Medical Center Hospital Board formerly as president and treasurer. Richard donated his time for over 20 years delivering meals through Meals on Wheels in the Norwalk area. He enjoyed reading, doing lawn work, traveling, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Galan and Margaret “Meg” Blackburn; grandchildren, Emily (A.J.) Petitti and Alec Galan; sister, Ann Khayat; sisters-in-law, Lois Blackburn and Ann Hettel.
In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan Blackburn; daughter, Kathleen Blackburn; and brother, James Blackburn.
His family will receive guests at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857 on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. His service will be held at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with burial at Milan Cemetery. Visitors are required to bring and wear a mask or face covering and are encouraged to practice all social distancing and mass gathering guidelines.
