Kathryn A. Hammersmith, 62, of Norwalk, Ohio, died on January 6, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital – Cleveland Fairhill after contracting and battling the coronavirus. She was born on July 5, 1958 in Norwalk to John “Jack” and Barbara (Spencer) Churchill and was a 1976 Norwalk High School graduate.
Kathy’s endearing fun loving nature could make any situation more enjoyable. She treasured working with people and among other things, was a talented interior designer, most recently with Norwalk Interiors. She delighted in making memories with her family and friends, and was a fighter. Having survived a battle with cancer 22 years ago, she was an ally and advocate for those walking through the same struggles. She was passionate about the American Cancer Society, and frequently participated in the Relay for Life.
Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, John Hammersmith; their son, Scott (Alissa) Hammersmith of Charlotte, North Carolina; Kathy’s parents, “Jack” (Barbara) Churchill of Norwalk; grandchildren, Avery, Beckett and Cayden Hammersmith; sisters, Lisa (Rick) Albright and Debbie Mitchel; and brother, Mike Churchill.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 11, 2021 beginning at 10:30 a.m. With Father Michael Bialorucki officiating at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio. Inurnment will take place in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Those attending the funeral mass are asked to bring and wear a mask and practice all social distancing and mass gathering guidelines.
