James Sweeting Obituary

James Marvin Sweeting, age 81, of Estero, Florida passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 13, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia, his children Douglas (Sheila) Sweeting and Jennifer Sweeting (Robert Northern); grandchildren Samantha, River, Jack, and Beck; brother Richard (Joy) Sweeting. He was proceeded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Henry, and brother Keith. 

He was raised on the family farm in North Fairfield, Ohio. Following high school, he attended and graduated from Bowling Green University and received his Master’s degree from Central Michigan University. He also served his country as part of the Ohio Air National Guard.

Jim had a distinguished career with the Saginaw Public Schools starting as a teacher and culminating with his retirement while principal at Zilwaukee Elementary School. In addition, he was a children’s camp inspector for the State of Michigan during the summer months. His love of sports, basketball specifically, could always be seen in his coaching or anywhere he could play the game.

Jim was a member of the State Street United Methodist Church in Saginaw, Michigan and since his move to Florida has been an active member of the Estero UMC.

A visitation will take place at the Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, Ohio on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again on Monday, February 22, 2021 from 10 a.m. until the time of the 11 a.m. service, also at the funeral home.  A burial will follow the funeral home services on Monday in North Fairfield Cemetery.  Guests to the funeral home are reminded to bring and wear a mask and to be prepared for the possibility of having to wait outside if current reduced capacity limits are exceeded until room becomes available.  Social distancing and mass gathering guidelines will be observed.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, 3760 Fowler St., Ft.
