James G. Rallis, 56, of Wellington, died on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 unexpectedly at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1964 in Sandusky and was the son of Mary (nee Griste) and John Rallis. He grew up between Wellington and Queens, New York City and graduated from Wellington High School. James also attended the New York Institute of Fine Arts. While in New York he worked as a floral designer for one of the premier floral shops in Manhattan.
James was an endurance swimmer and put his talents to use as a lifeguard and swim instructor at Splash Zone and Kendal at Oberlin. He truly had a passion for swimming and teaching children to swim. A talented artist, he carried a sketchbook with him at all times. He will be remembered for his outgoing and unforgettable personality and always lighting up a room. To James, everyone he encountered was a friend. He was an active member of AA throughout the area. He was extremely knowledgeable about antiquing and enjoyed collecting many things. James had a passion for history and maintaining a connection to his family; he especially enjoyed the time spent at his grandfather’s pharmacy in Wellington as a child.
He is survived by his father John (Marie) Rallis of Astoria, New York; he was preceded in death by his mother, Mary. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, May 3, 2021 from 4-7 p.m. with a time for friends and family to share beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main Street, Wellington. A private graveside service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, Wellington. Expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.norton-eastmanfuneralhome.com. All attending will be asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
