Ezella Hale Obituary

Ezella Hale, 81, of New London peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 22, 2022. She was born on December 24, 1940 to the late Alta (Hall) and Wilburn Parsons.

She is survived by her five children, Rhonda (Mark) Killgrove, Larry (Michelle) Hale Jr, Gwen Bailey, Allen Hale (Louise Shupe), and Kenneth (Learose) Hale; 12 grandchildren; countless great grandchildren; and siblings, Wanda Stewart, Regina (Henry) Kidd, and Faye (Edgar) Carroll; and sister-in-law, Judy Parsons.

In addition to her parents, Ezella was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Hale Sr; granddaughter, Heather Killgrove-Reed; brother, Wilburn Parsons Jr; sister, Juanita Akers and son-in-law, Keith Bailey.

Ezella was a force of nature with a heart of rose gold. To know Ezella was to love her. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking Sunday Dinner for her entire family after attending service at Fitchville Church of Christ. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. “God bless Grandma’s little one” were the words she spoke to her grandchildren whenever they needed her most.

Ezella cared deeply for her family and late husband, Lawrence Hale. She had a beautiful marriage with her husband of 49 years prior to his passing in 2004. They married young on August 2, 1955 and built a life together that most could only aspire to. She would tell her grandchildren that all she wanted was for them to find love and a partner like she had with their grandpa.

Lawrence and Ezella ran the successful floral shop and greenhouse, Larry’s West End Greenhouse, in New London for many years. Whether you attended homecoming and got a red carnation with red and black ribbon, ordered your prom corsages and boutonnieres, were handed a flower when you graduated from NLHS, or needed to send some flowers to your sweetie for Sweetest Day, Ezella Hale was the creative woman behind it all.

She touched everyone’s lives with flowers and the art of talking. She loved to spend time with her close friends in the back of the shop drinking coffee and reading the paper. Most knew that if you went to visit her, you had to allow enough time for a nice chat. Many tried to leave their cars running, thinking they could get in and out quick, but that never worked. She would talk with the town about anything and everything. If someone was having a bad day she would hold their hand, call them baby and say a prayer.

Ezella could also be very feisty especially when cheering on her children and grandchildren during football, wrestling, baseball, volleyball and cheerleading.

Ezella Hale was like no other. She loved hard and created beautiful things for the people she cared for. She will be missed greatly but will be remembered fondly as the powerful and loving woman she was.
