Edwin Henes Obituary

Edwin Elmer Henes, 93, of New London, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2021.  He was born on December 23, 1927 in Huron, Ohio, the son of Elmer and Hannah (nee Thomas) Henes.

Ed proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and was a member of the New London American Legion.  He was a journeyman electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 42 years.

He was a man of many interests, hobbies and talents.  Being raised in Huron Ohio at sixteen years old he built his first sailboat and flew his first plane.  He continued to love flying and shared that interest and talent with his son Ed and granddaughter Katie.  He moved to New London in 1972 to try his hand at farming.  Enjoyed training and raising sulky horses.  Ed was also a talented woodworker and built 3 homes and built his second sailboat at age 89.  Nine of his grandchildren were fortunate enough to sail with him in that sailboat on the New London Reservoir.  Ed was a faithful Cleveland Browns fan and saw his first in person game at 88 with his family.  More recently he enjoyed keeping active in his garage and doing puzzles.

Ed is survived by his daughter, Sandra (Daniel) Welsh of New London and daughter-in-law, Michele Henes of Amherst; 6 grandchildren, Katie (Ann Schloss) Henes, Jill Henes, Darcie (Russ) Parsons, Samantha (Mike) Willis, Emily (Brian) Dalton, Ted (Laura) Welsh; 11 great-grandchildren, Leah, Nathan and Ivan Willis, Alayna and Alivia Welsh, Bailey Dalton, Jamieson, Elliott, Garrett and Anderson Parsons and Callie Henes.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jacqueline “Jackie” Henes; sons, Edwin Thomas and John Adams Henes and three sisters, Marjorie Marshall, Lila Jane Ranft and Ida Ruth Hastings.
