Donajean (Pettit) Shafer

Donajean Pettit Shafer, age 89, of Crystal River, FL left her family to be with the Lord on Apr 4, 2023.  Donajean was born outside Greenwich, Ohio in 1934 to the parents of Donald Jay and Irene Ryliss (Ecrement) Pettit.  She was a graduate of Greenwich High School, received her nursing education in Akron Ohio and later received her Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University.  She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Ohio University, Whirlpool Corp, and the Quaker Oats company and retired in 1989.  Together with her husband Joe, Donajean enjoyed traveling and visited much of the world including trips to Australia, Europe, South America and the majority of the United States.  Together they visited 43 National Parks and experienced 21 Ocean Cruises.  She was very athletic and adventuresome and was a talented slalom water-skier, enjoyed running 5K road races and bicycling.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Joe Shafer and children Robert Shafer & wife Julia, John Shafer and wife Mary Lou and sister-in-law Dianna Shafer. 

The family will conduct a Graveside Service at Edwards Grove Cemetery, 4130 Edwards Road, Greenwich, OH 44837 on Friday, June 9, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s foundation at https://www.parkinson.org.  Eastman Funeral Home, Greenwich is assisting the family with local arrangements and online condolences may be shared by visiting; www.eastmanfuneralhome.com.
