Long time Lorain County resident, Don Keller, age 92, of Wellington, OH passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 after a brief illness. He was born on April 3, 1928 and raised by Carol Atlee and Anita Baumgartner Keller, of Columbia Station.
He married the late Ruth Frances Minnich, of Elyria on June 24, 1950. Don and Ruth raised 3 daughters: Jan (Ed Blohm), Lynette (Barry Kroeger) and Meg (Russ Cross). Don had 7 grandchildren: Marc (Gina) Blohm, Kurt Blohm, Lisa (Eric) Smith, Jack (Hannah) Kroeger, Kelley (Derick) Roach, Karlie (Ethan) Gill, and Aurora Cross. He also had 7 great grandchildren: Mallory Blohm, Sidney Blohm, Lauren Smith, Graham Smith, Kinsley Roach, Bentley Roach and Theo Kroeger. After his beloved wife, Ruth died in 1987, Don had a long term loving friendship with Nadine Miller of Columbia Station and later, Shirley Gott of Wellington.
Don graduated from Columbia High School in 1947. He briefly attended Ohio State. He worked in several industries and enjoyed his career as an independent entrepreneur. He was a managing partner of Strike Out Lanes in Wellington in the early 1960’s. From that experience, he built and managed the Dairy Dipper in LaGrange from 1964-1990.
Throughout his life, Don was an avid hunter and sportsman. He competed in coon hunting events and enjoyed hunting into his eighties. In his younger days, he was known to enjoy snowmobiling and four wheelers.
