Dewey Summerfield Obituary

Dewey J. Summerfield, 97, of Norwalk, Ohio died Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Admiral’s Pointe Nursing Home, Huron, Ohio.  He was born April 5, 1923 in Looneyville, WV to the late Snowie (Casto) and Romie L. Summerfield.  Dewey was a veteran of the US Army during WWII and was a diesel mechanic by trade where he was a go to for his knowledge about diesels by many.  He was a member of the Norwalk American Legion and in his earlier years he farmed.  Diesel mechanic was his trade, but he enjoyed operating backhoes and dozers and worked at McCoy’s Trucking and was instrumental in developing Indian Trail Campgrounds in Fitchville, Ohio.  In his spare time, he enjoyed sitting outside with his granddaughter Robin Risner and his dog “Shadow” talking about old times.

Dewey is survived by his daughter; Peggy (Walter) Ritchie of Norwalk, Ohio, son; Ronald Summerfield of KY. 10 grandchildren, sister; Doris Schaffer of GA and brother; John Summerfield of Ashland, Ohio.  He was preceded in death by his wife; Kathleen (Merwine) Summerfield in 2005 and brothers, Bailey, Dorsel, Ray, Roy, Benjamin and Sisters, Madge, Betty, Effie.
