David Deehr D.O. Obituary

David W. Deehr, D.O., 78, of Milan, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio. He was born in Sandusky on November 9, 1945, to the late Carl and Doris (Schaefer) Deehr. David met his wife Judith (Myers) in high school, and the two married in 1968.

David attended Perkins High School and was the first PHS athlete to score individually in the State Swimming Competition where he placed 7th in ’62 and 10th in ’63 in the breaststroke event.  Upon graduation from high school, he attended Ohio State University and earned a scholarship on the swim team lettering in his first year. David then transferred after his sophomore year to Kirksville State Teacher’s College of Osteopathic Medicine where he graduated Cum Laude in 1971.  After graduation, he did his internship and residency at Grandview Medical Center in Dayton, OH and started a family.  They then moved back home to be closer to family and practiced at Fisher-Titus Medical Center for nearly 40 years. Known to many as “Doc Deehr,” David was active in the community, donating time and expertise in support of the Edison High School athletics programs, little league softball and baseball teams, and the Boy Scouts.  An Eagle Scout himself, David served on the Executive Committees of the Firelands Council and the Heart of Ohio Council. David also served 16 years on the Berlin-Milan Local School District Board and 22 years on the Fisher-Titus Medical Center Board.  He was a faithful man and served as Church Council President at Resurrection Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran Church, and St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church. In his spare time, David enjoyed fishing and hunting and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. Some of David’s most precious time was spent with his grandchildren, Andrea and Luke, and he enjoyed watching them grow up.

David is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith; his children, Rebecca, Rachel, and Jacob (Emily); his grandchildren, Andrea and Luke; and his siblings, Susan Rabbitt, and Dale (Karol) Deehr.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Doris Deehr.

David’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Firelands Hospital & DaVita Dialysis for their kindness, care and guidance.
