David Barnes Obituary

David R. Barnes, 82, died January 17, 2022 at Fisher Titus Medical Center. David was born on June 13, 1939 in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Robert and Margaret (nee Danch) Barnes. David lived most of his life in Amherst, Ohio and was a 1957 graduate of Amherst Central High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie (nee Kuhn) on May 9, 1959. In 1997, they relocated to Greenwich, Ohio, where he resided until his passing.

David worked for Lorain Music Company for several years before becoming employed by Ford Motor Company. He retired from the Avon Lake Ford plant following a 28 year career. He served 2 terms in the U.S. Army and was reactivated during the Berlin Wall Airlift (Cold War).

Dave was actively involved in the Masons with ties to the Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Masons (Wakeman), and a member of the Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. of Ohio (Black River Lodge No. 786). He was a member of mid-century Avon Lake, 32nd degree, with the Valley of Cleveland. He was also a member of the Al-Koran Shriners.

David had many hobbies and interests including the Cleveland Indians, NFL football, NASCAR, woodcarving, cooking, reading, and feeding the birds at his many bird feeders. He possessed a special love for all animals and shared his home with many of them throughout his life. He loved being one of the head chefs at the annual family Szalona bacon fry.

Special memories for his family are the many Christmas Eve’s spent at his home in South Amherst.

He is survived by his daughters, Traci (Russ) Thorpe, of Grafton, Toni Whitelock, of Greenwich, and his son, David (Bridget) of Taylorsville, KY; 9 grandchildren and 18 great- great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bonnie in 2017; step-sister, Joyce Dillman; half-brothers, Larry Inscho and Reed Chave.

There will be no service, a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. If desired, contributions can be made in his name to any animal shelter.
