Colleen Johnson, 88, formerly of Wakeman, died Monday January 10, 2022, at The Abbewood Retirement Center. Born on March 17, 1933, in Plain City, she was the daughter of the late Roy Edgar and Alice Mae (nee Ellis) Lombard. Colleen was a 1950 graduate of Chuckery Darby High School. In 1965 she moved to Wakeman where she raised her family. She later attended the Sandusky School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1973.
Colleen was an LPN and worked at Allen Memorial Hospital in the OB department. She was well regarded for her lactation consulting with new mothers. Colleen was an active member of the Wakeman Congregational Church, serving on many committees and the Women’s fellowship. She was also a member of the Wakeman Riverside Reading Circle, LaGrange Flamingo Club, and the Camden Girls Club. Later in life she volunteered at Fisher-Titus Hospital.
Colleen had many talents, many of which stemmed from necessity, including canning, baking, and cooking. She was a skilled seamstress, needle point, and crochet, and flower arranger. Colleen enjoyed tending to her flowerbeds, and she will be remembered for her delicious pies. Many of Colleen’s talents she shared and passed along to her children, including the pies. Most of all Colleen cherished time with her family. She was very involved and enjoyed, especially, attending her grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include her children, Duane (Jackie) Johnson, of Penfield, Lisa (Eric) Robson, of Wakeman; grandchildren, Erin Thompson, Ashley Rebillot, Lauren Tedesco, Megan Rees, Katie Stefanski, Deanna Troutman, Tyler Johnson, Kyle Robson, Natalie Gonyea, and Vincent DelMedico; great grandchildren, Sophia, Asa, Mallory, Madelyn, Isabella, and Grady; son-in-law, Ted DelMedico; and daughter-in-law, Patty Johnson. Colleen was preceded in death by her husband Richard Cecil Johnson; son Douglas Johnson; daughter Lynn DelMedico; and siblings, Mildred Rausch, Patricia Heflin, Jack Lombard, and Carole Howell.
A private family service will be held with burial at Penfield Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Donations in Colleen’s memory may be directed to either the Lynn K.
