Walter M. Thomas, 75, of Wellington, died Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at University Hospital EMH, in Elyria. Born on March 2, 1944 in Glade Springs VA, he was the son of the late James Matthew and Ruth Novella (nee Maiden) Thomas. Walter moved to Ohio as a youth and lived in Lorain County moving to Wellington in 1978.
Walter joined and proudly served in the United States Air Force for 8 years. After his military service he joined the Lorain County Sheriffs Dept where he served for another 8 years. He later took a job with Ford Motor Company at the Lorain assembly plant where he was a supervisor until his retirement in 1987. Walter enjoyed spending time fishing, cooking out with family and cars, especially Mustangs. He will be remembered for the traits he passed along to his children, his hard work ethic, good character, and a love for good music.
Survivors include his loving wife, Anna (nee Willard); children Wally (Lisa) Thomas, of Grafton, Aimee (Daniel) Williams of Norton, Adam Thomas, of Worcester MA, and Amanda Thomas, of Coraopolis, PA; 6 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; siblings Joyce Brand, William Thomas, Clarence (Peggy) Thomas, Theodore (Maria) Thomas, and Diane (Charlie) Schaffer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was preceded in death by his brother James (Shirley) Thomas, brother-in-law Myron Brand and sister-in-law Patti Thomas.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, January 10, from 9 a.m. until the time of services beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 South Main St, Burial will follow at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Friends of Herrick Memorial Library, 101 Willard Memorial Sq., Wellington, 44090.
