Ruth “Evelyn” Caldwell, 80, of Norwalk, went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on Sunday,
December 1, 2019 at Gaymont Nursing Center. Born on March 31, 1939 in Fredericktown, Ohio, she was
the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mary Virginia (nee Kehrwecker) Seif. She was a 1957
Fredericktown High School graduate and went on to earn her Diploma in Nursing from Mt. Carmel
School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio in 1960.
Having a passion for helping others, Evelyn worked as a Registered Nurse at Fisher Titus Medical Center
in Norwalk and Mercy Hospital/Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. She was a member of
Brighton Congregational Church in Wellington, where she served as the Missions Director and was a
member of the Prayer Circle. For many years she and her husband supported Compassion International
children through monthly giving. In her spare time, she enjoyed her family and grandchildren and her
hobbies included sewing, quilting, gardening and playing cards. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and
spending time with family celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus.
Evelyn leaves behind her loving husband, Robert Caldwell of 40 years; sister, Wilma Lepore of Norwalk;
children, Paul (Lorraine Caldwell ) Burt, of Atlanta, Janet (Jake) Ballard, of Collins, Lou Ann (Mark)
Wiegand, of Oberlin, Rob (Gerry) Caldwell, of Wellington. She was loved and cherished by many and was the kindest and most gentle grandmother to 14 grandchildren: Rachel (Paul)
Hodges, Gina (Jason) Woody, Magen (Jason) Powell, Shawna (Chad)Schofield, Matthew (Rachel) Caldwell, Zach Caldwell, Bethany (Trent) Lowenstein, Derek Zook, JesseBurt, Brenna
(Mitchell) Brewer, Zachary Caldwell, Heidi Wiegand, Jacob Wiegand, McKenzie Caldwell and Riley Caldwell and 11 great grandchildren. Of interest, Evelyn met her husband Robert, (father
of Lorraine) at her son Paul’s wedding to Lorraine Caldwell and the two were married that same year.
Family and friends will be received from 6pm -8pm on Saturday December 7th at Norton-Eastman
Funeral Home, 370 South Main Street, Wellington. Services will be held on Sunday December 8th at 2pm at the Brighton Congregational Church, 22086 State Route 511, Wellington,
and she will be laid to rest following at Brighton Cemetery.
