James Thomas “J.T.” Navarre, 84, of Wellington, died Tuesday evening at home. Born on August 29, 1935 in Duluth, MN, he was the son of the late Anatole Joseph and Mary Leona (nee Pizziter) Navarre. JT spent most of his youth in Orange, TX.
For several years JT worked in the oil fields for Baroid division of National Lead Company in Texas. He eventually made his way to Wellington, where he owned and operated the Western Auto and Goodie Barn stores and later owned Navarre Major Appliances. JT was a member of the Wellington VFW Post 6941, American Legion Post 8, and Eagles Aerie 2051. He also gave time to the Chamber of Commerce helping with the Wellington 4th of July celebration, and calling bingo.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Linda (nee Boyles); sons Lawrence Joseph (Rose) Navarre, of MI, James Robert (Georgia) Navarre, of CA, and Christopher Dean Navarre, of NC; grandchildren Joey, Rylee, Andrew, Mason, Nathan, Emma, and Nick; and a brother, Anatole Navarre Jr., of TX.
Friends and family will gather on Friday, September 20, from 4-7 p.m. at Norton-Eastman Funeral, 370 South Main Street. Burial will take place at Brick Church Cemetery, Huttonsville, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be directed to Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington.
