Halcyon Elaine Strickland, 92, of Norwalk, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 31, 2019. She was born on September 25, 1926 in Cleveland to the late Conrad Wilbur and Mildred Isabelle (Biebighauser) Thieret.
Halcyon accepted Christ on August 18, 1944. She graduated from Bible Baptist College with a degree in Theology and did missions work in Chad, Africa, and later Strongsville and Richmond, Ohio. She was a prayer warrior who loved going to church and listened to her favorite preachers on the radio and watched them on television.
Halcyon worked for Aluminum Mfg., which produced small parts for airplanes during WWII and the Air Force’s Veteran’s Affairs Department, also during WWII. She was a patriotic and dedicated conservative who always had a handle on the world and country’s current events. She also served on the Townsend School board in the 1960’s.
An avid crossword puzzle solver, Halcyon also played board and card games and especially enjoyed Rook and her nightly routine of watching Wheel of Fortune and then Jeopardy. She was a wordsmith who was meticulous with the English language and that meticulousness extended into her appearance and everything else for that matter. She loved her family, making candy, watching and feeding the birds, taking care of her flowers, crafts and sewing.
Survivors include her children, Janet, Dwight (Cindy), Debbie, Christine, Roxanne (James) and Brad (Cheryl); 14 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 60 years, Romyne Farnell Daniel Strickland; 2 brothers, 3 sisters and son in-law, Dennis.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Benedict Ave, Norwalk, OH 44857 from 1 pm until the time of the 3 pm service, with her son, Pastor Dwight Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Collins Cemetery with Pastor James McClain offering the committal.
