Ernest "Ernie" Jones, 87, of Elyria, died Tuesday, August 6, 2019 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born December 2, 1931 in Knapp, West Virginia and had lived in Ashland before moving to Elyria in 1985.
He owned and operated the Benson Motel (Travel Inn) in Ashland for many years. He enjoyed going for walks, playing music and the history of Charles Town, West Virginia.
He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army who served in the Korean War. He received several honors for his service including a Korean Service Ribbon, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
Ernie is survived by his sons, Clifford E. of Ashland and Ronald A. of Willard, Ohio; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his sister, Ruth Spencer, of Wellington.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Drusia "Ruth" Jones of 56 years; his two sons, Jeffery M. and Richard A.; his parents, James "Corbett" & Ruby Jones; brothers, Robert and Paul Jones and sister, Helen Butler.
Family will receive friends at Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Rd., Avon on Monday, August 12, 2019 at 11a.m.
