Donald W Stein

Norwalk, Ohio – Donald W. Stein, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Norwalk Memorial Home, Norwalk, Ohio.  He was born on June 7, 1924 to the late Walter and Marie (Riley) Stein in Milan, Ohio and was a lifelong Norwalk area resident.  Don was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School.  He served his country during World War II, as part of the United States Army. He was awarded among others a Purple Heart.

  After his service Donald was a dedicated employee of Norwalk Truck Line, he later purchased a farm on the outskirts of Norwalk. There he built a family dairy farm with his son Tom until his partial retirement in 2004. He enjoyed working on the farm, gardening, sweet corn, playing cards, and wintering in Palmetto, Florida for many years.  He was a devout Catholic and member of St. Paul Catholic Church.  Don loved his family, cherished his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and instilled in them, among other values, the importance of faith.  As part of his outward sign of faith, he made and donated thousands of rosaries, both locally and throughout the world. 

  Don is survived by his children, Richard L. (Patty) Stein of Norwalk, Ohio, Patty A. (Dan) Bergman of Port Clinton, Ohio, Debbie J. Stein (Denny Smith) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tom M. Stein of Norwalk, Ohio, Mary A. (Kim) Klinow of Sandusky, Ohio and Bill E. (Bonnie) Stein of Collins, Ohio.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Chad, Troy, Danny, Chris, David, Brian, Jennifer, Jessica, Jeffry, Brittany, Samantha, Chelsea, Josh, Wesley and Megan, and by 30 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bernice A. Stein in 2013, by his daughter, Donna J. Yost in 2016, by his son-in-law, Ron Yost in 2011, and by his siblings, Florence, Joe, Paul, and Robert Stein. 

Friends may call on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio.  A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St. Norwalk, Ohio, Msgr.
