Alvin H. “Al” Schmuhl

 Norwalk, Ohio – Alvin H. “Al” Schmuhl, 85, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 14, 2017 in Norwalk Memorial Home. He was born August 30, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Alvin E. and Kathryn H. (Harbauer) Schmuhl, and came to this area in 1962 from Toledo, Ohio.

Al was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. He received his M.B.A. degree from Toledo University. He retired as a financial cost analyst at Clevite.

Al was a member of Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sandusky Rod and Gun Club, the Sandusky Power Squadron, and the Toledo University Alumni Association. He was an avid boater, enjoyed radio control airplanes, photography, fishing, and was an avid Ohio State fan, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Cavaliers fan.

Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley A. (Irving) Schmuhl of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Matthew J (Gayle) Schmuhl of Grafton, Ohio, Laura M. (Steve) Sadler of Chicago, Illinois, Mary Jane Schmuhl of New York, New York, and Thomas R. (Laurie) Schmuhl of Norwalk, Ohio.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Timothy Schmuhl, Kenneth (Meghan) Schmuhl, Catherine Schmuhl, Margaret Schmuhl (Bradley Parcella), Daniel Schmuhl, Keli (Zach) Eckel, Heather (Shawn) Hemenway, and Jared Matso, and by his great grandchildren, Grant Eckel, Carson Eckel, Miles Eckel, and Emmett Hemenway.

Al was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Schmuhl, by his sister, Barbara Scott, and by his grandson, Kevin Schmuhl.

There will be no calling hours. Mass of Christian Burial will held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Kenneth Morman will officiate. Interment will be in St. Paul Cemetery.

Karen M. Midkiff

Norwalk, Ohio – Karen M. Midkiff, 71, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, Ohio. She was born April 17, 1946 in Tiffin, Ohio, to the late William and Thelma (Luman) Barrett, and came to this area in 1965 from Tiffin, Ohio.

Karen was a 1965 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Norwalk, Ohio, and was a former employee of Big Lots in Norwalk, Ohio. Karen was also a member of A.A. for 32 years. She enjoyed puzzle books, was a huge Elvin Presley fan, and especially enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Karen is survived by her children, Ernest F. “Rick” (Melissa) Midkiff of Batesville, Indiana, Robert A. (Andy) (Deanna) Midkiff of Norwalk, Ohio, Barbara J. Cory of Norwalk, Ohio, and Theresa P. (Matt) Stapleton of Knoxville, Tennessee, and 5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest M. Midkiff, Jr. in 2008, and by her son in law, Thomas Cory in 2012.

Friends may call on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk, Ohio.

Kyle Vincent Osborn

 Norwalk, Ohio – Kyle Vincent Osborn, 28, of Milan, Ohio, died unexpectedly early Sunday morning, August 6, 2017. He was born February 23, 1989, in Akron, Ohio.

Kyle is the son of Jerry and Jean Osborn. He graduated from Edison High School in 2008. Kyle worked at Sirna and Sons. He loved to play basketball with his nephews, playing cards, and spending time with his family. Kyle loved his daughter more than anything, and was an icredible dad. His personality was contagious, and being around him was never a dull moment. He could make everyone smile and always had everyone laughing. As many of you know, Kyle struggled with addiction for years, but these last four months he was winning the battle until one decision changed everything.

Kyle is survived by his fiancée, Brittany Kennedy and their daughter, Emiliana Osborn of Milan, Ohio, by his grandmother, Sharon Brutsche of Milan, by his father and mother, Jerry and Jean Osborn of Milan, by his siblings, Elizabeth Vaughan of Sandusky, Ohio, Octavia Vaughan of Milan, Ohio, and Tiffany McConnell of Norwalk, Ohio, 7 nieces, 6 nephews, as well as Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Maj. Denny R. Vaughan and Shirley Vaughan, by his grandfather, Jerry R. Osborn, by his Uncles, Denny R. Vaughan, Jr., Stephen Vaughan, and Rick Osborn.

A memorial dinner will be held at the VFW 140 Milan Avenue, Norwalk, Ohio on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Susan I. Tovo

 Norwalk, Ohio – Sue I Tovo, 60, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at Cleveland Clinic Hospital.  She was born to Alice (Nestor) and Paul Gerstenberger in Norwalk, Ohio.

She was a cook for many years before becoming a homemaker, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren, watching basketball, listening to music, and being active with Lefty Grove baseball.

She is survived by her mother Alice Gerstenberger, Brother, William and Sherrie Gerstenberger, Sister, Paula Webb, Children, Heather (Tovo) Godbolt, and Stephanie Tovo. Grandchildren, Dustin Tovo, Taylor Tovo, Mason Kerby, Braylon Tovo, Kyrie Gipson, and Chad Rodgers. Great-grandchildren, Jay’ceon (Tovo) Williamson, Greycen Cummings, and Alicia (Tovo) Carter.  Also many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life Clifton Vance and her father Paul Gerstenberger.  Also many aunts and uncles.

Calling hours are from 5:00 p.m. until time of service at 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio.  Rev. Joe Woodyard will officiate services.

Linda L. Wunder

Norwalk, Ohio – Linda L. Wunder, 68, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2017, in Fisher Titus Medical Center. She was born to Mardel (Wilcox) and the late Raymond L. Smith in Norwalk, Ohio, on May 20, 1949.

Linda was a member of the North Fairfield United Methodist Church, and lived in both the Norwalk, and North Fairfield area, all of her life. She was a home-maker and loving wife.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Irvin R. Wunder, of Norwalk, Ohio, by her mother, Mardelle Smith, of Norwalk, Ohio, by her sisters, Patsy M. (Carl) Gray, of Norwalk, Ohio, and Debbie R. (Wayne) Coffman, of Norwalk, Ohio. Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Larry R. Smith, in 2012, by her sister, Vicky Smith, in 1953.

Friends may call on Thursday, August 10, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m., in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio 44857. Rev. Tim McCollum will officiate. Interment will be at North Fairfield Cemetery.

Robert W. Myers

 Milan, Ohio – Robert W. Myers, 77, of Milan, Ohio, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2017 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born March 6, 1940 in Shiloh, Ohio, to the late Herbert C. and Mable (Okey) Myers, and lived in this area most of his life.

Bob was a member of the Foundation Church, and accepted Christ as his savior in 2010. He was a former employee of Hug Construction Company, R & K Construction Company, was the former owner of Myers Masonry, and Homestead Farms of Milan, Ohio. Bob was currently the “pool boy” at Indian Trails Camp Grounds. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Moose Lodge, and the Norwalk and New London Eagles Club. He enjoyed his Dart Ball league, camping, farming, gardening, and was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan. Bob will be fondly remembered for his laugh and sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Pat Myers of Milan, Ohio, by his children, Calvin K. (Lisa) Myers of Willard, Ohio, Randi J. (Timothy) Weaver of Lorain, Ohio, and Denise M. (James) Boyce of Beale AFB, California, 9 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty J. Myers in 1997, by his daughter, Sharon K. Green, and by his sisters, Shirley Brockway, Janice Chill and Jean Ryman.

James F. Schindley

 Maumee, Ohio – James F. Schindley, 75, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Maumee, Ohio. He was born February 23, 1942 in Bellevue, Ohio, to the late Raymond, and Ethel (Kessler) Schindley, and was a lifelong area resident.

Jim was an active member, and usher, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1960. Jim worked as a bricklayer for Wheithman Brothers Construction, and Studer- Obringer Construction, and was a member of the Ohio Bricklayers Union. He enjoyed woodworking, walking his dog, watching westerns on the television, and made two pilgrimages to Medugorje.

Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue (Bauman) Schindley of Perrysburg, Ohio, by his children, James D. (Whitney) Schindley of Franklin, Tennessee, Christine M. (Kevin) Fishel of Cincinnati, Ohio, David K. (Erica) Schindley of Huron, Ohio, and Angela R. (David) Malear of Perrysburg, Ohio, and 12 grandchildren.

He is also survived by his siblings, Margaret (Gerald) Karl of Willard, Ohio, Robert (Carole) Schindley of Bellevue, Ohio, Rita (Robert) Martin of Clyde, Ohio, and Karen (Gary) Geiger of Norwalk, Ohio. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Schindley in 1990.

Friends may call on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 1322 Settlement Road, Norwalk, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Rev. Ron Schauk will officiate. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Larry Windele Thornsberry

 Bellevue, Ohio – Larry Windele Thornsberry, 40, of Sandusky, Ohio took his last breath on Friday July 28th, 2017 after a long battle with his health.

Larry was born on May 29th, 1977 in Shelby, Ohio to Althea Sexton and Jimmy Thornsberry. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved anything that had to do with basketball. One of his greatest accomplishments was his children, he loved being a father. Larry had a very large group of friends and family, and was loved by many for his charming personality. On June 6th, 2017, Larry very proudly chose to give his heart to the Lord with his family by his side.

Larry is survived by his mother, Althea Sexton; his paternal grandmother, Eva Thornsberry; his former spouse, Larissa Thornsberry; their daughter and son-in-law, Haley and Joshua Bardell; their son, Jacob Thornsberry; his partner, Treva Campbell; their three sons, Brayden and Trevyn Thornsberry, Brentyn Campbell; and his daughter, Kayla Thornsberry.

He is also survived by his brothers: James Burkes, Robert Carpenter, Jeremiah Crain, Brandon Johnson, Jimmy Thornsberry; and his sisters: Alicia Johnson and Angel Thornsberry.
Larry is preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Thornsberry; his paternal grandfather, Luther Thornsberry; his maternal grandparents, Birtha and Buford Sexton; and his brother, Shane Sexton.

Memorial Services for family and friends will be held at a later date.

Charles P. “Phil” Leak

 Norwalk, Ohio – Charles P. “Phil” Leak, 87, of Norwalk, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 in Gaymont Nursing Center. He was born July 30, 1930 in Willard, Ohio, to the late Corwin A. and Julia I. (Grimmer) Leak.

Phil was a 1948 graduate of North Fairfield High School, and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Phil was the founder of the Phil Leak Company of Norwalk, Ohio. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #711, American Legion Post # 706, North Fairfield, Elks Lodge #730, and Firelands Post #2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Phil enjoyed hunting, fishing, motocross, flying, and he especially enjoyed animals.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean E. (Bedell) Leak of Norwalk, Ohio, by his children, Michael A. (Kathleen) Leak of Norwalk, Ohio, Terri A. (Herb) Snyder of Norwalk, Ohio, and Lorri J. Shane of Norwalk, Ohio. Phil is also survived by his grandchildren, Cori (Charlie) Hoyt, Chelsey (Dr. Kevin) Kerchansky, Orre (Andriana) Shane, Oakley Shane, and Cassidy Leak, by his great grandchildren, Camden, Alex, Keelyn, Odin, Hailey, and Caiden, by his brother, John (Ethel) Leak of New York, and by his sister, Ann Henning of Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Phil was preceded in death by his son, Jon P. Leak in 1996, and by his Step Mother, Olive Leak.

Orland R. Pollard

 Clyde, Ohio – Orland R. Pollard, 61, of Clyde, Ohio, passed away Sunday, July 30, 2017 in the Bellevue Care Center, Bellevue, Ohio.  He was born April 15, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Milford and Georgiann (Welch) Pollard.

Orland is survived by his children, Sateetha Williams of Port Clinton, Ohio, Tracy Pollard of Port Clinton, Ohio, and Sean Pollard of Corpus Christi, TX. He is also survived by his step son, Phil Roby of Norwalk, Ohio, and by his step daughter, Lana Montgomery of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and 11 grandchildren.

Orland is also survived by his siblings, Walter (James) Pollard of Bellevue, Ohio, Mark Pollard of Clyde, Ohio, Penny Pollard of Sandusky, Ohio, JoAnn Pollard of Clyde, Ohio, Vicky Caldwell of Tennessee, and Bill Jo Pollard of Port Clinton, Ohio.

He was a member of the Providence Baptist Church of Bellevue, Ohio, and was a 25 year employee of Mossers Construction Company of Fremont, Ohio.  Orland enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and outdoor activities.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio.  Rev. Dan Duffy will officiate.
